Wednesday 11 September - Rudesheim or Sailing Day?

We headed off last night - hooray!  Sailing again!  The Captain is trying to get through as many locks as possible and we will be sailing all day long.  We've been told not to forget to wave to all the lock masters on the Main River - I think everyone is getting ready to wave one finger in particular.

The big decision:  Do we have a quiet sailing day or ... a relaxing morning followed by "an adventurous afternoon and evening"?  The first is self-explanatory.  The second option involves: being bussed to Wertheim (yes, again); then after a couple of hours, being bussed to Rudesheim, "famous for its Riesling, taverns and Siegfried's Musical Cabinet"; from there, bussed to Rheinfels Castle for a "medieval dinner in a true medieval castle". 

Decisions, decisions ... we're staying on board.  It's overcast and cool today and rain is forecast.  It's a shame to miss the cable car ride above the vineyards in Rudesheim and a dinner in the dungeon, but I don't want to get a dose of pleurisy.  A quiet day of blogging, reading with maybe a couple of drinks sounds like it's the order of the day.

Beautiful towns all along the way today, including Freudenberg with its castle perched high on the hill.

The 100 passengers who took to the buses got back on board around 11.30 pm - a long, long day.
